I put this up to help me share with others the results I get from various divx encodings. Note: The video resolution is 720x480. I am planning on resizing it down to 528x352 and seeing how that affects the quality.
Here I am really disappointed in Divx 4.11's ability to encode...while I've encoded some beautiful looking DVD movies into DIVX and they look really good, I did notice occasional macroblocks and problems in solid color areas. I have some samples here to show what I mean. Maybe someone has some ideas on how to reduce this problem. Or maybe I should abandon using DIVX for storing my home miniDV movies..
This is miniDV
This is divx 4.11 encoded at 2000kbits/s
This is divx 4.11 encoded at 2500kbits/s Average Data rate is 326 KB/sec
This is using MPEG-2 encoded at average 970 KB/sec
This one is DIVX 4.11 encoded at 6000kbits which came out to over 700kB/sec
Note: To better illustrate the differences,I doubled the size of each image using bicubic resample in Paint Shop Pro 7
Now obviously the mpeg2 sample isn't fair because the bit rate is so much higher than mpeg4, so I'll also add a comparison showing a very high mpeg4 bit rate (as high as it can go)
